Shades of Immortality

You left me aching
for your every touch
listening for your words in the winds
I'm held back from the abyss
by life's cruel talons
and duty, a sense of responsibility
to those you left behind

Yet through weary nights
and rainy days
I dream of you
my soul lost and adrift
pulled along each day
my thoughts in desperation
for my mortality

Your life has become
a memorial in my mind
your ghost haunts my every heartbeat
when I wake from sleep
and find you gone
how I ache to find those
shades of immortality
