Broken Hearts

Paled promises
and sundered souls
hold a wealth of tears
reaching for time past
when hope,
held above fears
encompassed and comforted
and held strong

Then darkness came
and with it, pain
hope died,
withered and old
its way lost
and forgotten
shadows lurked
inside this broken heart

But the cracks
of this shattered soul
lead the way
through the labyrinth
back out to face the light
to face life again

And even broken hearts
can mend.
